Welcome

With over thirty years of property experience and having just completed a BA(Hons) Architecture (RIBA Stage I) from Falmouth University, and now embarking on the Masters, now I can begin to make a difference in the world of design.

Working full time, and with extra evening jobs, by the age of eighteen I was able to buy my first house thanks to a 105% mortgage; something practically unheard of today!

Following my passion for all types of structures, I have made it a personal mission to help as many keen homeowners as possible to make buildings more beautiful and more practical without killing the budget!

Just by adding a simple feature can make the design transformation from 'okay' to 'wow!'. Of course, 'simple', is not the same for everyone; each have their idea of what 'major work' might be!  Altering the roof for a new room, installing a small front porch or, indeed, helping to prepare for a whole new structure - the approach is the same.

Whatever the project, I always try to reuse, repurpose or reinvent to create in the most sustainable and sensible way possible...

Why !?

Having lived and worked with property most of my life, working ten years abroad - partly in Nice, France and partly in the Algarve, Portugal - I have had the pleasure of owning, rebuilding, letting and holiday renting a variety of homes.

I have re-furbished, rewired, re-plumbed, designed, re-designed, invested, sold, purchased, painted, cleaned, furnished and probably much more than just that...

Responsible Design

Certainly, the aim is to 'architect' homes and buildings that really reflect the personality and lifestyle of the client. Alongside this is the responsibility to inform on the correct material use for climate change protection. No-one should opt for the obvious without examining the options and the amazing technological breakthroughs that are becoming more and more affordable.

I like to involve precise detailing, 3D imaging and modelling combined with patient communication based on strong research and budget clarity. This way, together with the building owners and final occupiers as well as neighbours and authorities, we can ensure sensitive conservation, energy efficiency, use of resource-saving structures and the intelligent employment of sustainable materials and finishes.

Always Learning

We are all constantly learning and it is inevitable that both clients and peers will continue to inspire my architecture. For the most part my passion lies with:-

  • conservation architecture

  • creating homes with flexible workspaces

  • making commercial spaces uplifting and adaptable

  • using the most local of resources and conserving materials wherever possible

  • establishing gardens and greenery in any way possible!

All are welcome to make contact to discuss partnerships, bit-part projects, one-off consultancy or simply to share knowledge and explore ideas over a coffee (which may even be a virtual one!)

Home Cornwall was a concept invented in 2013 which has taken me on a journey of discovery in the architectural world. This website highlights some of things I have been up to - it is a business designed to be flexible, ready to grow, and a hub from which to share creative skills.
